Dr. Kurien :
Verghese Kurien (26 November 1921 – 9 September 2012) was a renowned Indian social entrepreneur and is best known as the "Father of the White Revolution", for his 'billion-litre idea' (Operation Flood) — the world's biggest agricultural development programme. The operation took India from being a milk-deficient nation, to the largest milk producer in the world, surpassing the United States of America in 1998, with about 17 percent of global output in 2010–11, which in 30 years doubled the milk available to every person,. Dairy farming became India’s largest self-sustaining industry.
Architect of “Operation Flood”, the largest dairy development programme in the world, Dr. Verghese Kurien has enabled India to become the largest milk producer in the World. A man with a rare vision, Dr. Kurien has devoted a lifetime to realizing his dream – empowering the farmers of India. He is also known as “Father of White Revolution” or “Dudhwala of India”.
The major success of this mission was achieved through the World Bank financed Operation Flood, which lasted for 26 years from 1970 to 1996 and was responsible for making India the world's largest producer's of milk. This operation was started with the objective of increasing milk production, augmenting farmer income and providing fair prices for consumers.
Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited supported the operation flood by deploying Electronics Milk Tester at village co-operative societies to ensure transparency and quality milk. The farmers are continuing to receive remunerative income for the milk they supply to the village dairy cooperative.
NDDB:
The National Dairy Development Board is an institution of national importance set up by an Act of Parliament of India.
NDDB has integrated more than 96,000 dairy co-operatives & linking the village co-operative society to the state federations in a three-tier structure. NDDB launched its Perspective Plan 2010 with four thrust areas: Quality Assurance, Productivity Enhancement, Institution Building and National Information Network.
NDDB empowered millions of small & marginal farmers through village dairy cooperatives. AMUL pattern societies across the country made farmer rich in terms of tangible & intangible wealth.
NDP-National Dairy Plan
